Applications are open for the ICFJ Knight Fellowship on Gender and Development Journalism 2017. The International Center for Journalists seeks outstanding applicants with a background in gender and development-focused journalism for a six-month ICFJ Knight Fellowship to help strengthen coverage around these issues in Indian newsrooms.
The Fellow — working with ICFJ’s data journalism and multimedia specialists — will lead the design and execution of a series of gender and development-focused storytelling projects at top Indian newsrooms, ensuring maximum organizational and societal impact and best possible audience engagement. His or her work will be supervised by current ICFJ Knight Fellow Nasr ul Hadi and the ICFJ Knight team in Washington, D.C.
You will track key project analytics and metrics, measure impact and generate stories to showcase results. You will also help organize community events that bring together important stakeholders from news media, civil society, tech companies and government to drive collaboration and widespread adoption of audience engagement strategies and technologies.
Benefits
- During the Fellowship, each Fellow receives an allowance for expenses related to the Fellowship, and an honorarium
- Fellows also receive an allowance for health-insurance coverage in their home countries and emergency coverage if they are working outside their home country;
- Fellows receive two weeks of paid vacation per year.
Eligibility
- Each ICFJ Knight Fellow must be an Indian citizen or have a local work permit, and will be based in New Delhi, India, for her or his fellowship;
- The successful candidate will have:
- Significant experience as a journalist covering gender and/or development, especially in India;
- Experience leading projects with impactful storytelling that improved the coverage around gender/development issues
- Vision for methods, formats and products to engage news audiences;
- Excellent leadership and management skills; bonus points for being influential in journalist/digital communities and networks;
- Ability to work effectively in a team and manage several concurrent projects with timely deliverables;
- Fluency in English and Hindi, excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills.
