Do you know someone you’d like to see recognized for his or her important contributions to ocean conservation? If so, you can help Oceana find the 2013 Ocean Heroes.
Oceana created the Ocean Hero Awards in 2009 to recognize exceptional individual accomplishments in ocean conservation. Nominations will be accepted until June 28. Voting will run from July 16-26 and winners of the Adult and Junior Awards will be announced on July 31.
Eligibility
Nominee:
- Any individual who has volunteered, organized, cleaned up, conducted research, educated, advocated or otherwise acted in a way that benefits the world’s oceans, its inhabitants or the communities and peoples that depend on ocean resources may be nominated.
Nominator:
- Nominators may nominate themselves or other people, but Nominators must be at least 13 years of age or older.
- Nominations by individuals under 13 years of age will not be accepted.
- There is no limit on the number of nominations an individual may submit, but Nominators may only nominate one person at a time and may not nominate the same person more than once.
- All submitted nominations become the property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.
- Employees of Oceana Inc. (the “Sponsor”), its respective affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, production and promotion agencies, and the immediate families and members of the same household of each are not eligible to be nominated.
Prizes
Contest winners will receive:

- Commemorative Award (framed)
Contest finalists (excluding winners) will receive:
- Oceana t-shirt
- Complimentary Adoption from the Oceana Adoption Center
- Signed copy of The Perfect Protein
Oceana may include additional prizes for Finalists and Winners if they become available.
